Lifetime Achievement Award Recipient
Jyotsna (Jo) Custead
Jyotsna (Jo) Custead arrived in Saskatoon from Kenya at age 14, navigating her formative years as a first-generation immigrant and developing a deep connection to community. A proud Saskatonian and member of her East Indian cultural community, she has spent over 40 years empowering women, breaking barriers in professional spaces, and strengthening non-profit governance. As an active volunteer with more than 25 organizations, including leadership and Chair roles, Jo has become a respected role model for many.
Following her federal civil service career, Jo dedicated herself to volunteering across health, arts, culture, justice, and women’s organizations. She served as Chair of the Saskatoon Board of Police Commissioners (2021–2023) and spent nearly a decade on the YWCA Saskatoon Board, including as President, contributing to major initiatives like the 100th Anniversary Committee and Hope Lives Here Capital Campaign. Her contributions have been widely recognized through honours such as the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal, the Saskatchewan Volunteer Medal, and induction into the Saskatoon Council of Women Hall of Fame, reflecting her lasting impact on building a more inclusive community.
