Education is the key to a brighter future. We want to help families start education savings for their children. YWCA Saskatoon is proud to be one of the member associations in this national YWCA initiative aimed at providing families living on low income with information on the Canada Learning Bond and the financial contributions available for children’s post-secondary education. Reducing the cycle of poverty is a key goal of the YWCA and the Accelerator Project.
The Canada Learning Bond is a federal grant of $500. to $2,000. to eligible families to assist with the cost of a child’s education after school. Families don’t have to spend any money to open a no-cost Registered Education Savings Plan (RESP) and apply for the Canada Learning Bond.
How does it work? The first step is to sign up which takes about 10 minutes to open a no-cost RESP account and apply for the Canada Learning Bond. The next step is for the parent or caregiver to visit the financial institution of their choice to complete the application. Then its congratulations on taking steps to save for the child’s post-secondary education!
Thanks to a partnership with SmartSAVER the first 25 families to participate through YWCA Canada’s Accelerator Project before the end of October will receive a $195. gift card of their choice. Also YWCA Saskatoon will be hosting an Accelerator Project sign up event on September 20 as part of the day’s activities leading up to the Shine the Light Run. The event will be from 1:30pm to 3:30pm in the studio.
