YWCA Saskatoon’s Employment and Learning Centre remains closed for in-person group programs (Job Finding Club) in light of the COVID-19 situation. We will continue to provide remote services via email, telephone, social media, and Zoom.
However, if you had the opportunity to visit the Employment and Learning Centre prior to the COVID – 19 situation, you would have seen our gallery of SCYAP paintings. At some point in the future, we hope to reopen so you might see this wonderful installation.
As you may know, Saskatoon Community Youth Arts Programming (SCYAP) is Saskatoon’s leading organization for youth employment engagement, free art studio access, art workshops, and gallery space for emerging artists. SCYAP Inc. is a charitable and non-profit organization that helps youth at risk through art, cultural and employment programming, and provides inclusive art drop-in programs, art workshops, and employment readiness training.
One of SCYAP’s principal goals is to foster acceptance, integration, and equality within the Saskatoon community by carrying out collaborative projects with different sectors, such as business, government, social and health services, and promoting inclusiveness and diverse cultural expression in classes, workshops, and presentations. One such program is SCYAP’s partnership with Saskatoon Inter-Agency Response to Covid-19 to support the community in staying safe by designing social distancing markers on the sidewalks in front of the Friendship Inn, White Buffalo Youth Lodge, Saskatoon Food Bank, and Learning Centre and SWITCH. A team of youth artists had fun putting their creative marks on the sidewalks while contributing to their community.
Another SCYAP program of note is their social enterprise, Pirate Signs, which has an experienced staff of artists with the ability to create unique custom designs. As they note, “If you are looking for something different we are the place. Logo, poster, and mural design”. Pirate Signs produces:
- Signs large and small
- Banners & banner stands
- Decals and vinyl lettering for business, vehicles, and home
- Stickers and magnets
- Graphic design.
Of particular note, Pirate Signs advises they are now open at 402 33rd Street West, Saskatoon, or phone: (306) 652-7760 and are ready for all your signage orders including Covid-19 related products.
YWCA Employment and learning Center encourages you to support this social enterprise. Please be aware, when you choose Pirate Signs 100% of the profit goes back into sustaining SCYAP’s youth engagement programs.
Your Employment and Learning staff are working remotely. Should you have any questions or require assistance in your job search, feel free to contact your Employment and Learning Centre for support.
