Our new Fitness Manager is Fred Dyck, who comes to YWCA Fitness on 25th with over 25 years of employment in sport and recreation.
Prior to coming to Fitness on 25th, Fred was Executive Director for the Saskatchewan Triathlon Association from 2008 to 2015, a time of unprecedented growth for the sport of triathlon in Saskatchewan and in Canada. Before that, Fred honed his customer service and management skills in the golf industry for over 14 years. 11 of those years were spent at one of Saskatchewan’s premiere golf facilities, the Willows Golf and Country Club, with the last three as Director of golf Operations.
Fred’s path into employment in sport and recreation began with completion a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education from the University of Saskatchewan.
Throughout his career, Fred has always focused his energy on helping the regular person achieve their sport, health and wellness goals and is enjoying the opportunity to do the same at Fitness on 25th.
From a sport and recreation perspective, golf is Fred’s first passion, but since becoming involved with the sport of triathlon, endurance athletics has become a regular pursuit. He is an avid runner with the highlights of his running career including completing three marathons, numerous half marathons and trail races. One of Fred’s most rewarding running experiences came when competing as part of a team at the Grand Cache Death Race: a 125 km trail race over three mountains. And this October, Fred completed the Marine Corps Marathon in Washington DC in a time of 4 hours 5 minutes.
Fred likes to follow functional fitness programs for his workouts. He was an early adopter of CrossFit© and became Crossfit certified as an instructor in 2008 while visiting CrossFit San Diego. His training over the past few months has focused on being prepared for the Marine Corps Marathon, but look to find him completing functional fitness-styled workouts in our gym this winter. You will also see Fred biking to work and visiting the trails along Meewasin Valley on his fat tire bike. Join us in welcoming Fred to the YWCA!
