Join the team at Fitness on 25th for another year of our Cross Country Ski Fitness Program designed for beginner to novice skiers. This is a great program to expand your understanding of the physical demands of cross-country skiing. Learn how to get prepared for a season and train while you improve your skiing. We will cover how to target your training in the gym to improve your cross-country experience, and How to have fun while doing so!
Much of the training will occur at the Fitness Centre (Fitness on 25th) at YWCA Saskatoon with some actual ski instruction when weather allows. With guided and home workouts with basic nutritional advice to help fuel your skiing.
Participants will leave this program with an annual Cross-Country Ski Fitness Program you can use each year to prepare for the ski season.
Meet our team of professional trainers who will be leading this program:
Valerie Kirk, Certified Personal Trainer (16 years) and avid skier
- I’m a Personal Trainer/Aerobic Instructor who owns a business ‘ESSENTIALLY FITNESS’ and is employed by the YWCA. I’ve been personal training since 2005 and certified as an aerobic instructor since 1982 but have been cross country skiing for over 40 years. I attend many workshops, certifications, seminars, webinars, etc. I’m certified through CSEP (Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology); SKESA Saskatchewan Kinesiology and Science Association (SKESA and the Kinesiology Association have amalgamated as of October 2021); Can-Fit-Pro and Saskatchewan Parks and Recreation. I have many, many other certifications, too many to list.Cross Country Skiing is a passion of mine. It’s fun, relaxing, challenging all at the same time. It’s a great way to reduce stress, breathe fresh air, enjoy nature and experience exercise at the same time.
Rahim Ramji, BSc, Doctorate in Physiotherapy
- Being a Kinesiologist and having recently graduated with my Physiotherapy degree this program has me really excited! I love helping people move and be physically active. Cross country skiing is an awesome opportunity that a lot of the worlds population does not have access to. Lucky for us, we have amazingly long and snowy winters, so this activity is perfect for us! I have a history of helping a variety of people move better and help them reach their health goals. From high level athletes to seniors with severe movement impairments. I hope to help you reach your health goals by helping you build a strong base to prepare your body so you can enjoy cross country skiing and reap all of the benefits.
