“LOVE My Job” YWCA Staff Stories – Bev’s Story

Employment & Learning, YWCA News
Bev joined the YWCA staff in September of 2001. Over the past 15 years what has stayed the same has been her dedication to the YWCA, and her passion for helping people build confidence and hope in their lives.
Bev works as an employment counsellor in the YWCA Employment & Learning Centre, working with our clients who are seeking work, sometimes because they need a job to simply pay the bills and take care of their families, sometimes because they have gone through layoffs and uncertainty and are starting a second career. There are many personal factors and job search stories, each as unique as our clients.
Bev always talks about the noticeable change she sees when she meets a client for the second time. This second meeting is the one when they receive a draft of the resume Bev developed for them. At this moment, they can see their strengths right there on paper, and as a result their confidence begins to build.
In addition to helping clients find work, Bev also heads to the gym right here at the YWCA on most noon hours. (She would really like to see more of her co-workers come out to join her on the obstacle course every Thursday!)
To this day, Bev still feels honored and thrilled each time a client brings in a family member to meet the person who helped them. Or when a client stops by with vacation photos–because that job security and vacation was made possible through the job that Bev helped them get.
We are fortunate to have Bev as part of our professional YWCA team with her commitment to delivering the best services possible!
Watch for the “LOVE My Job” series of staff stories running this February on YWCA Saskatoon’s website blog and social media channels. We love what we do, and it shows!
