Local Shoppers Drug Mart Teams Support Women’s Mental Health

Shoppers Drug Mart Beauty Gala funds YWCA Saskatoon mental health programming

SASKATOON – YWCA Saskatoon services and programs for women’s mental health have received a boost from a generous funder, Shoppers Drug Mart. The combined fundraising efforts of 13 local Saskatoon store teams and their customers have focused on women’s mental health initiatives through the Spring Beauty Gala. A group of Pharmacist Owners announced a major donation today of $11,460 for YWCA Saskatoon.

The entire Saskatoon market participated in the Spring Beauty Gala fundraiser, including all local stores: Lakewood Common, Center Mall, Grosvenor Park, Stonebridge, Market Mall, University Heights, Broadway and Taylor, Meads, Canarama, Midtown, Westgate, Kensington, and Hampton Village.

“Every day at the YWCA, we see women who are diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder, or presenting other kinds of mental health symptoms. Mental health issues and addictions are definitely a reason women are seeking shelter with us here at YWCA Saskatoon,” said YWCA Saskatoon CEO Shannon Friesen, “Thanks to the Shoppers Drug Mart support of our work, our team is equipped to serve our clients with a trauma-informed approach, and continues to provide therapeutic, supportive programming that helps our clients gain stability.”

Shoppers Drug Mart Pharmacist/Owner Ian Delmage said “Our Spring Beauty Gala Fundraiser raises funds for women’s mental health related programming. Shoppers Drug Mart has partnered with women’s health organizations at national, regional and local levels, in order to provide direct support, ensuring that essential funding, resources and education are available to meet the needs of Canadian women. We are pleased to present this year’s Spring Beauty Gala cheque to YWCA Saskatoon Women’s Crisis Shelter and Residence for their mental health programming and services in our community.”
