The old expression is “knowledge is power.” Training and Research are two reliable ways to obtain that knowledge.
In the Employment and Learning Centre at YWCA Saskatoon, we have a Computer Lab that is there to help in gaining computer ability. With seven computers, and skilled instructors, there are computer classes for those who are inexperienced with computer, and for others who want to upgrade their skills. We have numerous classes for using the Microsoft Suite.
The Introduction to Computers helps the novice discover the possibilities of computers and learn what they can do for you. Understand the components of a computer, how it works and how to operate windows. This is often coupled with Internet and Email, to learn to effectively use and navigate the internet. Develop skills for searching, communicating and emailing. Learn about security settings to avoid potential online threats.
There are two levels of Microsoft Word, starting with Word Introduction. Here you will learn the basics of Microsoft Word; including proofing text, editing and inserting graphics into documents. For Word Intermediate, you will get to explore more advanced features of Microsoft Word; including the use of graphics, mail merge and the creation of charts and graphs.
There are also two levels of Microsoft Excel. In Excel Introduction, learn the basics of Microsoft Excel; including how to organize and adjust spreadsheets and set sheets up for basic calculations. With Excel Intermediate you will get more advanced Excel skills. For example, you will learn to apply advanced formulas to spreadsheet data; learn to use Excel for charting and accounting purposes.
Our two other classes are for PowerPoint and Publisher. These classes are for those interested in business presentations and for business publications.
Our classes are very gentle and nonjudgmental for those who are new to computers or the Microsoft Office Suite. Come see our Computer Lab some afternoon if you have any more questions, or call the Employment and Learning Centre anytime during working hours and ask for Linda.
