Essential Services and Job Opportunities

YWCA Saskatoon’s Employment and Learning Centre remains closed for in-person programs in light of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) situation.  We will continue to provide remote services via email, telephone and social media (Facebook).

We believe it is important to maintain your job search momentum. As such the Employment and Learning Centre will offer you daily job search advice and support that you can complete from home.

As always, apply with job search documents tailored to the job you are applying for.  A one size fits all resume will most likely not work in today’s economy.  Make it easier for the employer to hire you by highlighting the skills you have that are relevant to the employer.

Today’s post is another post in the series….

Looking for a job and think everything is closed?  Many services are deemed Essential.  At first glance, we think of the services we use most often and tend to notice the ones that are closed.  Rather than seeing the empty portion of the glass, think about the full part.  There are, in fact, many services that fall under the Government of Saskatchewan’s definition of essential services.   Find out what they are and search for jobs in those areas.  It may surprise you how many services are currently deemed essential.

Check out this website, “Is your business an essential service?”  It tells you which ones may stay open and which ones are closed.  If there are restrictions on how they are operated such as take out only or emergency dental services.  You now have an instant list of industries that may be hiring during the current COVID-19 outbreak.

This website lists businesses by province and it notes that it is being updated.  So think about the different things you can do and check to see where your skills are needed.

Your Employment and Learning staff is working remotely through email or over the telephone.  Should you have any questions or require assistance in your job search, feel free to contact any of your Employment and Learning staff for support.  You can reach us at:
