Don’t forget to Work Your Core

By Fred Smith, YWCA Fitness on 25th Personal Trainer

Any successful workout routine will include exercises for your core. The core is generally known as the belly (abdominals), sides of the belly (oblique muscles) and mid to lower back. There are many benefits to working your core. Have you ever noticed yourself slouched over your desk with your shoulders forward and back arched? Working your core muscles can help you with your posture, enabling you to sit up straight. Core strength and stability are essential to everyday life from activities such as bending over to pick up your children or grandchildren or performing a difficult task such as shoveling heavy snow. My personal favorite benefit of a strong core is it allows a person to exercise with proper technique and form; reducing injuries and increasing workout gains.

Keep in mind your core is only one part of your body. It’s important to have a well-rounded workout that exercises all of your body. Ask our Fitness Consultants for a few tips on different ways to challenge your core workouts in the gym or book an appointment with one of our YWCA Fitness on 25th Personal Trainers for your own personalized routine complete with a challenging core workout.
