Career Moves 55 – 64

Did you know that the Employment and Learning Centre at YWCA Saskatoon has a program to assist job seekers who are 55 to 64 years of age? The program is called Career Moves 55-64. It has been running since January 2019 and is funded by the Government of Saskatchewan.

The Career Moves 55-64 program assists and supports job seekers to successfully find employment within the hidden job market. In a group setting participants learn effective job search strategies, gain confidence and stay motivated in their job search.

Each session includes 25 hours per week for 6 weeks of classroom program delivery plus there are 50 hours of work placement. Participants may be eligible for a training allowance.

Throughout the program job seekers will create an employment plan, learn how to market their skills and experience, build their personal brand, develop competitive resumes and cover letters, prepare for interviews, connect with employers, learn about being successful in the workplace and enhance their computer skills. The work placement provides an opportunity to build confidence, gain current work experience, enhance skills and develop potential references for employment. Funding for short term training and job start up supports is available and participants also benefit from ongoing individual job search and job maintenance support provided by an Employment Counsellor.

Individuals who have participated in the program have reported increased confidence as well as an increased ability to market themselves to employers through targeted job search documents, a prepared elevator speech and professional business cards.  Overall, participants felt positive, prepared and ready to meet their employment goals.

The next Career Moves 55-64 program will start on January 13th, 2020. If you are interested in learning more please contact the Employment and Learning Centre at 306-986-2873 to register for the January 8th information session.
