YWCA Saskatoon’s Employment and Learning Centre remains closed for in-person programs in light of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) situation. We will continue to provide remote services via email, telephone and social media (Facebook).
We believe it is important to maintain your job search momentum. As such the Employment and Learning Centre will offer you daily job search advice and support that you can complete from home.
Today’s post is another post in the series….
“Networking” is a buzz word that gets used often in the context of job searching. Connecting with others is one of the most important aspects of career development, so it is important that you value all the connections you have, and continue to make new connections, particularly in the career field you’re involved in. Identifying your current network is a good place to start, including friends, family members, teachers, professors, employers, volunteer supervisors, and anyone else you can think of. Detect any people among your current connections who are in the field you are interested in, hoping to get into that field, or who may know someone in that field. If so, find a way to make a connection with them. If it’s somebody already working in your desired area, an informational interview might be a good way to start. If your network is lacking the resources you desire, there are a number of ways to make relevant connections. Joining an online community, club, team, or volunteering with an organization are all great ways to grow your network.
Your Employment and Learning staff are working remotely through email or over the telephone.
