Shoppers Drug Mart Charitable Program Supports YWCA

Shoppers Drug Mart Raises Critical Funds for Women’s Health Initiatives through the Growing Women’s Health Campaign

Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, December 9, 2016 – With the combined efforts of Shoppers Drug Mart, its store teams and customers, Saskatoon will now have improved access to services and programming supporting women’s whole health in body, mind and spirit. The SHOPPERS LOVE. YOU. Growing Women’s Health fundraising campaign has raised more than $28,678 for YWCA Saskatoon.

With over 1,300 Shoppers Drug Mart/Pharmaprix stores across Canada participating in the four-week campaign, the 15th annual Growing Women’s Health campaign will provide support to more than 500 Canadian women’s health charities. National in scope yet locally based, the Growing Women’s Health campaign offers patients, customers and employees the opportunity to donate directly to charitable organizations to ensure that resources and programming are available to meet the needs of Canadian women. In Saskatoon, the donations by local Shoppers Drug Mart customers and employees at 12 stores will benefit the YWCA Saskatoon Crisis Shelter and Residence.

YWCA Saskatoon Executive Director Shannon Zook said, “YWCA Saskatoon provides much more than housing or basic necessities to each woman we serve; we are known for providing holistic “wrap-around” supports for her individual needs, in her journey toward well-being. We deeply appreciate this corporate donation from Shoppers Drug Mart Growing Women’s Health campaign toward our nurturing programs here at the YWCA. In our mission to nurture well-being, we provide counselling, nutrition programs, fitness programs, child care, employment supports, housing outreach services, and referrals to a network of agencies and we meet each woman where she is on her individual journey.”

“The success of the 2016 Growing Women’s Health campaign can be attributed to the support and commitment of our loyal customers and staff,” said Shoppers Drug Mart Pharmacist/Owner Rod Amaya, “Shoppers Drug Mart has partnered with women’s health organizations at national, regional and local levels, in order to provide direct support, ensuring that essential funding, resources and education are available to meet the needs of Canadian women. We are pleased to present this year’s Growing Women’s Health campaign proceeds to YWCA Saskatoon Crisis Shelter and Residence.”

The SHOPPERS LOVE. YOU. Growing Women’s Health campaign is a four-week program held across Canada each Fall. In support of leading women’s health organizations, customers, staff and associate-owners at more than 1,300 Shoppers Drug Mart/Phamaprix locations raise funds through the purchase of the Growing Women’s Health paper icons. Since 2002, the Growing Women’s Health campaign has raised more than $32 million for Canadian health charities. In 2016, over 500 Women’s Health charities across Canada will benefit from the campaign’s proceeds with 100 per cent of funds staying in the community where they are raised.
