10 Award Recipients Named at PotashCorp YWCA Women of Distinction Awards

 

Celebrating Women and Raising Funds to “Lift as You Climb”

Saskatoon, SK—At the Wednesday, May 31, 2017 Women of Distinction Awards Dinner, 50 nominees were recognized for their leadership and contributions in Saskatoon and area.

Kathryn Ford was named the 2017 Women of Distinction Lifetime Achievement Award recipient, recognition for her pioneering work in Saskatchewan’s legal community, and her foundational work building capacity for community organizations such as the YWCA and the Prairie Hospice Society.

“The Women of Distinction Awards Dinner is an important fundraiser focused on women. Because of this event, women who rely on YWCA services are empowered as they are building their lives. Our theme, “Lift as You Climb,” expresses our purpose for being here tonight,” said Shannon Zook, CEO, YWCA Saskatoon.

The 2017 Women of Distinction award recipients are:

Arts, Culture and Heritage Award – Dawn Woroniuk

Athletics Award – Darlene Danyliw

Community Building Award – Shelley James

Education Award – Cathy Mills

Entrepreneurship Award – Jessica Tetu

Health & Wellness Award – Dr. Vicki Holmes

Leadership & Professions Award – Véronique Loewen

Research & Technology Award – Dr. Erika Dyck

Under 29 Award – Maizie Bowkowy

Lifetime Achievement Award – Kathryn Ford, Q.C.

Over 800 attended the TCU Place gala Wednesday evening, which raised an estimated $160 thousand, designated to YWCA services for women, girls, children, and men, ranging from crisis shelter, transitional housing, counselling and employment supports to child care and wellness.

The Women of Distinction Awards® are recognized nationally as one of the most prestigious awards for women, and have honoured hundreds of Saskatoon and area women since 1982.

The Women of Distinction Awards® are the largest annual fundraiser for YWCA Saskatoon, through generous support of community members, award sponsors and longstanding title sponsor, PotashCorp. Funds raised touch the lives of thousands of women and families who access local services each year.
